Jacksonville needs Tony Allegretti. A new, downtown centered, state house district has been drawn for Jacksonville in this year's redistricting. Jacksonville must have a leader who is experienced and knowledgeable about the needs of a well connected downtown community to serve in Tallahassee. Tony Allegretti is that leader.
For over a decade Tony and his innovative concepts have been the center of gravity for downtown development in Jacksonville. Tony has provided both vision and the leadership that has created the most successful business and community activities in Jacksonville's urban core.
Riverside Arts Market is the largest, weekly, public art event in Florida and brings in over $1 million in on-site revenue for local businesses and has created $4 million in local economic impact each year since it began in 2009. RAM was named in the Top Ten River City Destinations by USA Today. Tony's leadership as Director made this innovation successful from the very beginning.
Downtown Jacksonville needs to be a center of gravity for the community to gather at the St. Johns River and enjoy the “living room” of a big city. First Wednesday Art Walk has become the perfect formula to show off what the urban core has to offer. Art Walk has brought an average of 10,000 people to downtown on a weeknight and generates more commerce for downtown businesses than a Jaguars game. Again, it was Tony Allegretti's ability to bring vision into reality that allowed all to share in the success.
Tony and his partners have made investment in Downtown businesses one of the best success stories in Florida. The Burrito Gallery is one of Downtown Jacksonville's most popular restaurants. Uptown Market has turned historic Springfield's Main Street frontage into a hub of activity from a nearly abandoned area of the urban core. The conversion of Public School 24 into loft condos at 1951 Market St. has made viable a property that was vacated by the school board.
Elected leaders have recognized Tony's vision and success. He has served on the Transition Team to the current mayor, Alvin Brown. He was selected as special advisor on downtown development by the former mayor, John Peyton. His expertise has been sought after by the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission, the Urban Land Institute, “Visit Florida” and many other community leadership organizations.
Rarely do voters get the chance to select a representative who is so experienced and qualified to truly represent their district. In this climate of political division it is also difficult to recruit quality people to run for political office. Let's send a message that community comes first and give Tony an overwhelming mandate to run for this urban core State House District and sign the petition to Draft Tony Allegretti for State House District 13!
